Today In Jambands.com History (11/15/05) – Trey and Tom, Jerry Birks, Russo Russo Russo…

Today we look back to November 15, 2005…

Trey and Tom Grind

Reunion week continues for Trey Anastasio. After jamming with former band mates Mike Gordon, Page McConnell and Jon Fishman over the course of the past seven days, Anastasio found himself in his childhood home of Princeton, NJ performing two blocks from his former residence at the McCarter Theatre. To mark the occasion, Anastasio brought out longtime lyricist, and Princeton resident, Tom Marshall for a number of his co-compositions including Wading in the Velvet Sea, Limb by Limb, Lawn Boy and Character Zero. Marshall also took the lead on Grind, a number he sang with Phish during its only live reading on December 30, 1998. Former Trey Anastasio Band woodman Russell Remington also played saxophone and flute alongside Jen Hartswick on a number of selections including, Mr. Completely, Low and Simple Twist Up Dave. Banter dotted Anastasios set, as he reminisced about growing up in Princeton and seeing Wynton Marsalis with Marshall at the McCarter. Anastasio also mentioned the rhombus, the gathering place and sacred element of Phish lore, reminding fans to keep its location a secret.

Russo Russo Russo

Last week we reported that Tribeca Rock Club would be closing its doors in December to make room for New York’s rapidly-gentrifying downtown condo district. On December 7, two time New Groove Jammy winner Joe Russo will bid his former stomping grounds adieu by performing in a number of configurations over the course of a single night. Alongside Marco Benevento, Russo will appear on vocals and guitar for a selection of covers as Come on Falcon. Next, the busy drummer will play outlaw country-rock with Scott Metzger as Danjaboots. Each of the evening’s performers will then be joined by WEEN bassist Dave Drewitz for a set of Led Zeppelin as Bustle in Your Hedgerow.

Led Zeppelin Via Rose Hill Drive

Rose Hill Drive has announced that it will perform Led Zeppelin’s eponymous debut release in its entirety at the year’s end. The group will interpret Led Zeppelin (aka Led Zeppelin I) for two nights in its home state Colorado. Rose Hill Drive will debut its tribute on December 30 at the Boulder Theater and offer up a second helping on New Year’s Eve at the Aggie Theatre in Ft. Collins, CO.

This evening Rose Hill Drive is at Brother’s Bar in Jacksonville, AL, one of its rare headlining gigs over the next 6 weeks, during which the band also will be supporting Gov’t Mule, Trey Anastasio and Will Hoge.

Jerry Birks

Finally, Jerry Garcia fans who find themselves conflicted on casual dress day at work have a new option. While flying their Garcia neckties, they now can trundle about on Jerry footwear (and if it’s a very special day, sip their J. Garcia wines daintily with the boss). Birkenstock has announced the inception of the J. Garcia Special Edition Collection sandals in five designs and colors. The Jerry Birks, which feature some of the guitarist’s artwork, are available nationwide beginning today, with proceeds to benefit DrawBridge, an arts program for homeless children.
