Today we look back to April 11, 2006…
Mike and Fish For Bernie
On Friday June 2 Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman will join each other on stage once again, in support of Congressman Bernie Sanders. In 1991, Sanders became the first Independent candidate elected to Congress in 40 years and has served Vermont in that role ever since. This fall, Sanders who was mayor of Burlington from 1981-89, will run for a senate seat. The Benefit event, entitled Honky Tonk The Vote, will feature Mike Gordon & Ramble Dove along with guest appearances by Jon Fishman and Grace Potter. Tickets will go on sale tomorrow via Bernie.org for the benefit, which will take place at Burlingtons Higher Ground.
The Duo’s Doubleheader
The Benevento-Russo Duo has confirmed a free show this Saturday at Copper Mountain, CO’s Sunsation. An afternoon gig, the Duo will perform in ski resort’s the Copper Mountain Events Plaza at 1 PM. Later that evening, the paired performers will also offer a club gig Ft. Collins, CO’s Aggie Theatre. The Duo’s double header is part of a brief Colorado run which also includes appearances in Boulder (4/13), Denver (4/14) and Aspen (4/16). Before then, the Benevento/Russo will perform tonight at Madison’s University of Wisconsin Memorial Union Rathskellar.
Phil & Friends Go For Three?
Phil Lesh has confirmed a two night stand in the Bay Area in mid-May. These shows at the Warfield Theater om May 18 and 19 precede the Berkeley Community Theater SEVA Benefit, which will mark the 70th birthday of Wavy Gravy. Phil & Friends performed at the SEVA benefit last year, which leads to some speculation that they may return again this year for the May 20 performance (however, this remains unconfirmed).
Joan Rivers and Cochemeas Conundrum
Admittedly there are two separate admissions but this evening promises quite a twin bill at Manhattan’s Cutting Room. The night starts at 8PM with Joan Rivers, who will kvetch a bit in offering her unique comic stylings. Then at 10, Cochemea Cheme Gastelum will perform on saxophone, bass clarinet and flute with a project that also features Adam Deitch (Lettuce, John Scofield) Adam Scone (Mofro), Al Street (Sugarman 3) and special guests. Gastelum is calling his band Cochemea’s Conundrum and perhaps his conundrum is just what will tunes will perfectly complement Ms. Rivers’ smoky vocals (or not)
