Today we look back to the news we reported on July 9, 2007…
Phil Lesh’s New and Old Friends
Phil Lesh celebrated Independence Day weekend by hosting an intimate show at Mill Valley, CAs Sweetwater Saloon as part of a weekend long Homeward Bound project. The gig featured a new group of friends, including longtime drummer John Molo, guitarist Barry Sless, Particle keyboardist Steve Molitz and rising Monterey, CA guitarist Jackie Greene. The ensemble ran through two sets of music over the course of the evening, including a show opening Bird Song, Greenes Ramble On, the Allman Brothers Bands Midnight Rider, Ryan Adams Let It Ride, Viola Lee Blues, Eyes of the World and a show closing Casey Jones. From the stage Lesh also dedicated the entire evening to ailing RatDog guitarist Mark Karan.
moe. and More in New Hampshire
moe.s Fourth of July weekend plans a brief run, fittingly, through New England. On Thursday the group offered a mammoth three hour show at Rhode Islands Newport Waterfront Festival which featured an almost completely seamless set consisting of Spaz Medicine, Not Coming Down, St. Augustine, Where Does the Time Go? and Dr. Graffenberg. Then, on Friday, the group headlined Hyannis, MAs Cape Cod Melody Tent before closing the weekend with a pair of asterisk heavy shows at New Hampshires Hampton Beach Casino. Saturdays show featured a rare appearance by drummer Vinnie Amico on vocals for the Marshall Tucker Bands Cant You See, while guitarist Al Schnier showed off his chops behind the kit. The evening concluded with a completely acoustic and unplugged version of the Bands The Weight. Finally, last night, local area resident, and Assembly of Dust keyboardist, Nate Wilson jammed on Buster and Y.O.Y. shortly after the group teased such unique themes as Iron Butterflys ‘In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida’ and the Three’s Company and Star Wars themes.
XMas Jam on TV
A portion of Warren Haynes XMas Jam will be broadcast on RAVE HD this summer. The Govt Mule/Allman Brothers Band guitarist hand picked selections from the 2006 edition of X-Mas Jam for the broadcast, which is available to viewers who subscribe to the Dish Network in High Definition. Haynes selections will also be featured on a DVD, which will be available with an Audio Disc early next year on Evil Teen Records. The concerts next airing is Sunday July 15th at 2PM.
On the Road Again with Bob Weir and Keller Williams
Bob Weir and Keller Williams bonded on the traveling So Many Roads festival in 2001 and have remained close ever since. Now Williams will once again spend a number of weeks on the road with RatDog and its temporary guitarist Steve Kimock, who is filling in for an ailing Mark Karan. On Saturday the friends kicked off what is sure to be a collaboration heavy summer at Atlantas Chastain Park Amphitheatre, where Weir emerged during Williams set for versions of ‘Dark Hollow’ and, fittingly, ‘On the Road Again.’ RatDog and Williams will appear, and likely collaborate, tonight at New Yorks Central Park SummerStage.
