U2 kept their Joshua Tree tour going at Pasadena, CA’s Rose Bowl last night for the first of two shows at the venue. The band continued their run of shows celebrating the 30th anniversary of their seminal 1987 album of the same name and added a couple of tribute to late Chris Cornell in the process.

As JamBase notes, the first nod to the singer came before U2 took the stage, as the stadium’s speakers played Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” as pre-show music. In the middle of their performance of The Joshua Tree, Bono took a moment to dedicate album track “Running to Stand Still” to Cornell, his widowed wife and their children. Frontman Bono called Cornell a “lion” and a “beautiful, sweet soul.”
