Dead & Company brought their tour to New York’s Citi Field stadium over the weekend, but before the music started, co-frontman Bob Weir participated in a special ceremony backstage, as the guitarist officiated the wedding of friend William Procida and his now-wife Kelly Lauerman, Page Six reports (via JamBase).

Procida, a real estate investor, told Page Six that he’s been friends with Weir since he “jumped on stage and did an encore” with him seventeen years ago. Weir and his Dead & Co. bandmate Jeff Chimenti were both present for the ceremony, which lasted around 15 minutes and featured, as one attendee said, some “beautiful things” said by Weir. Procida himself called the event “beautiful and funny” but with a small hiccup: “At the end, [we] forgot to sign the marriage license. He was getting on a golf cart to go on stage and I had to chase him!” Watch a clip of Weir’s wedding remarks below.

Weir and Chimenti then performed two sets for a crowd that included Procida, Lauerman and around 2,000 of their friends. See more photos from the night here. Dead & Company continue their tour tomorrow at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, before wrapping up the leg with a two-night stand at Chicago’s Wrigley Field this weekend.
