Meters bassist and jam-scene patriarch George Porter Jr. will turn 70 on December 26. Though Porter—who recently lost his wife of 50 years, Ara—has not confirmed his annual all-star birthday event, he has announced a special Christmas show.

Tomorrow, the bassist will take the stage at his regular haunt, New Orleans’ The Maple Leaf, for “George Porter Jr. Very Unofficial 70th Birthday Show.” Porter will perform with his trio, which also features Michael Lemmler and Terrence Houston. The Christmas show kicks off at 10pm.

George Porter Jr. and his Runnin’ Pardners will celebrate New Year’s at New Orleans’ The Maison. Soul Rebels will round out the bill. Then, The Porter Trio will circle back to The Maple Leaf on another day most venues are dark, January 1.
