On the final night of their Riviera Maya destination event this weekend, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds surprised fans by busting out Matthews’ Some Devil track “Trouble” as well as a cover of Phish’s “Waste.”

Matthews made headlines recently when he played the Phish tune with Trey Anastasio at the Concert for Island Relief, and while some believed the song would lay dormant once more, the placement of “Waste” as an encore on Sunday must have thrilled both diehard Dave Matthews fans as well as any undercover Phish fans in the audience. It was the first time Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds ever performed the song together.

The duo’s first destination event took place in February 2017, and this year’s iteration featured just as much excitement. The duo welcomed special guests to the stage throughout the weekend, including master banjoist Béla Fleck on Friday and Brandi Carlile on Sunday. The country singer, who played a set preceding the duo’s headlining performance, joined Matthews and Reynolds for the Before These Crowded Streets track “Spoon” and John Prine’s “Angel from Montgomery.”

And while Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds spent most of the evening side-by-side, Sunday provided a solo performance of “Ode to the Box” by Reynolds, and stand-alone versions of “Sweet” and “Sister” by Matthews.
