Gov’t Mule wrapped up their short stint Down Under earlier today with their second of two performances at Australia’s Byron Bay Bluesfest, and the group welcomed a number of guests for the occasion, including Jackson Browne, Lukas Nelson, Dumpstaphunk’s Ivan Neville and more.

Warren Haynes and company kicked off their Friday night show with a run of Mule originals before offering a duo of Beatles tunes, “She Said, She Said” and “Tomorrow Never Knows.” A few songs later, the band welcomed out Jackson Browne keyboardist Jeff Young for a cover of Billy Cobham’s “Stratus.” (Young was a member of an early Warren Haynes Band and recommended Gov’t Mule bassist Jorgen Carlsson to the group.)

Later, Lukas Nelson, who has guested with Mule for all of their recent Australia shows including Thursday night’s Bluesfest set, came out along with Ivan Neville and Nelson’s Promise of the Real percussionist Tato Melgar for a cover of Neil Young’s classic “Rocking in the Free World.” Immediately after that, Young returned with Jackson Browne for the Allman Brothers Band favorite “Melissa.”

Thursday’s show also featured Nelson and Melgar on another Young cover, “Southern Man.” See both setlists below as they appear in our Box Scores section. Gov’t Mule are off the road for a couple weeks before opening up their spring dates April 18 in Bethlehem, PA. See the band’s full schedule here.
