Just a stone’s throw from the wild antics of Bourbon Street, Ryan Adams paid tribute to The Rolling Stones on Saturday May 5 at the Saenger Theater, with his own take on Exile on Main Street.

The guitarist had an all-star backing band for the event, including John Medeski on keys, Don Was on bass, Terence Higgins on drums, Cyril Neville on percussion/vox and frequent collaborator Todd Wisenbaker on guitar/vox. Additionally the evening featured a full horn section (featuring Mark Mullins, Bobby Campo, Alonzo Bowens) as well as background vocalists Regina and Ann McCrary. Current Rolling Stones touring musician Karl Denson even guested on saxophone.

Over the high energy set, Adams mostly stuck to the script of Exile on Main Street, save for “Sweet Black Angel,” which was skipped.

Since Adams and company completed the album before the encore, they served up three more Rolling Stones classics as the show’s finale. They pulled from Sticky Fingers and Voodoo Lounge, to play “Can’t You Hear me Knocking,” “The Worst” and “Sway.”
