World Environmental Day was yesterday, but singer-songwriter Jack Johnson is still using his position as Goodwill Ambassador for the UN’s Environmental Programme to make an impact.

In a video posted via Johnson’s Twitter, he spoke encouraging words to his fans and ocean lovers, urging them, “Share your commitment and passion to the ocean. Let’s find alternatives to single-use plastic.” In a partnership with A Plastic Planet, Johnson is helping to launch the first One Plastic Free Day—an effort to get people to avoid plastic-made products, using the hashtag #BeatPlasticPollution to promote the environmental movement.

Johnson has also announced additional dates on his All The Light Above it Too world tour, where, in between his Jazz Aspen Snowmass and Mountain Jam Festival appearances, he’ll be making stops in Phoenix, Las Vegas, Albuquerque and Salt Lake City, ending with a headlining slot alongside Incubus at the Jersey Shore for the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in September.
