This weekend’s Winnipeg Folk Festival hosted a special onstage collaboration that featured Courtney Barnett, Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo, Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield and members of Real Estate, who came together for one of the festival’s famous workshops.

The collective traded off songs and eventually collaborated on covers of Neil Young’s “Revolution Blues” and Real Estate’s own “Two Arrows.” Ranaldo and Real Estate’s Alex Bleeker, both noted Grateful Dead aficionados, played an after-show of Dead tunes (with Bleeker’s bandmate Matt Kallman and more) during the Dead’s 2015 Fare Thee Well shows in Chicago.

Barnett took to Instagram to mark the collaboration, posting a photo of the collective (see above), thanking the festival for the opportunity and writing, “Was a treat doing songs-in-the-round-sonically-speaking with [this group].”
