Save for two August performances at the LOCKN Festival, Dead & Company closed their headlining summer tour at Boulder, Colo.‘s Folsom Field on July 14.

The sextet kicked off the first half with the classic pairing of “China Cat Sunflower”> “I Know You Rider,” forecasting an evening full of segues and improvisation.

The band would later close set one with another dependable “Cassidy”> “One More Saturday Night” segment, but not before digging into classics like “Shakedown Street,” “Brown Eyed Women” and “Althea.”

The meaty jams came in the second set, where a “Scarlet Begonias”> “Franklins Tower”> “Fire On The Mountain” got the band and the crowd excited for more. The evening’s most expansive musical movement followed, starting with “He’s Gone,” and moving into “The Other One” and the always out-there “Drums/Space.” “The Other One” returned one last time before the band played their final segue of “Days Between”> “Sugar Magnolia” to close the second half.

They encored with a double dose of “Uncle John’s Band” and “Ripple.”

“What a great tour it’s been. I feel like we’ve reached some new highs and I hope you feel that way too,” bassist Oteil Burbridge wrote on Instagram.
