Today we look back to October 5, 2007…

Rebel Alliance Jam VIII: Kang, Moseley, Berry and More

The Conscious Alliance has assembled the latest installment of its Rebel Alliance benefit concert series. Rebel Alliance Jam VIII will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the Boulder Theater. The String Cheese Incident’s Michael Kang and Keith Moseley have signed on along with Chris Berry & Panjea. Additional artists will participate (perhaps more of Kang and Moseley’s longtime bandmates). The event will serve as a benefit for both Conscious Alliance and Our Future Now.

Bobby, Martin and Dark Star For Rex

Last night the Dark Star Orchestra performed the first of three shows at the Fillmore Auditiorium in San Francisco. Thursday’s gig, which also served as a Rex Foundation benefit, featured some familiar guest players. Bob Weir emerged early the first set and remained through the close, adding guitar and vocals to such songs as ‘Jack Straw,’ ‘The Other One’ and ‘Hell in a Bucket.’ Then, during the second set, one-time Grateful Dead collaborator Martin Fierro (who also appeared with Jerry Garcia in Legion of Mary), added sax to a portion of the second set which included a strong take on ‘Weather Report Suite.’ The Dark Star Orchestra returns to the Fillmore tonight and Saturday.

A Colorado Leftover Migration

Leftover Salmon, which returned to the stage after a two year hiatus this past summer has announced that it will close out the year with two shows in its native Colorado. The group will appear on Friday December 28th at the Ogden Theatre in Denver and then travel to the Boulder Theater for a show on December 29. Tickets for both gigs will go on sale tomorrow at 10AM MST. Meanwhile, those who wish to hear (or purchase) some of the group’s performances from the past summer, can do so at the band’s new download site.

Four Way Street for Mule and Grace

Gov’t Mule’s Mighty High Tour with Grace Potter & the Nocturnals opened on Wednesday night in Toronto. Last evening marked the first American date of the tour with a show at the House of Blues in Cleveland, OH. At the close of the first set, the Mule invited Potter to the stage for two songs from Crosby Stills Nash and Young’s Four Way Street recording. First up was a version of the Stephen Stills song ‘Find the Cost of Freedom.’ Then Nocturnals guitarist Scott Tournet also came out, joining in for a geographically-apt cover of Neil Young’s ‘Ohio.’ The two groups travel to Wallingford, CT this evening for a show at the Chevrolet Theatre.

Cover Yourself

Blues Traveler has confirmed an October 30 release date for its forthcoming acoustic album. Cover Yourself will serve as a greatest hits package, with most of the songs originally selected by the group’s fans. The disc’s eleven tracks include versions of ‘But Anyway, ‘Defense and Desire,’ ‘NY Prophesie,’ and ‘Mountains Win Again’ as well as ‘Just For Me’ with guest G Love. The group will support Cover Yourself with a fall tour that will extend into early December, starting out this Saturday at the New Orleans House of Blues.
