SXSW: Electric Apricot For Two, Wetlands Preserved Too

The SXSW Film Festival kicks off tonight in Austin. Site editor Dean Budnick’s documentary Wetlands Preserved: The Story of an Activist Rock Club, will screen twice at the Austin Convention Center as part of SXSW: on Wednesday, March 14 (9PM) and Saturday, March 17 (2PM). In addition, Les Claypools directorial debut Electric Apricot: Quest For Festeroo, is on tap (so to speak) for Friday March 16 (3:30PM) at the Alamo Downtown Theater. Then on Saturday the 17th, Electric Apricot, the band, will perform a 9:15PM set at Opal Divines Firehouse.

Honkytonk Homeslice’s Tropical Hoedown

Honkytonk Homeslice has announced that it will host a three day event in Costa Rica. On May 9-11, the band and a number its musical friends will gather at a beachfront hostel for the Costa Rican Hoedown. Also salted to perform at the are Drew Emmitt, Tim Carbone, Jason Hann, Sharon Gilchrist, Tyler Grant and Erik Yates. The group has announced that each day music will kick off at 6pm and wrap up by about 11pm, leaving plenty of time for adventures, relaxation and socializing. Jeff Austin Goes It Solo and with Snider at The Soiled Dove

As we previously reported, on Monday night Yonder Mountain String Bands Jeff Austin appeared at the Fox Theater in Boulder, guesting with Umphreys McGee. Two nights later he also stepped up towards the close of Todd Sniders set to lend a hand (or two). Near the end of Sniders performance at Denvers Soiled Dove, Austin emerged to contribute to a few songs including Sideshow Blues, and Christian Conservative as well as East Nashville Easter, on which Austin sang lead. Austin is returning to the Soiled Dove this evening to perform a solo gig in support of the Colorado AIDS Project.

Soul Jasss

Allman Brothers Band co-founder Jaimoe is performing another of his infrequent gigs with Jaimoe’s Jasss Band this evening. In addition to Jaimoe on drums, the roster also will include Mack on guitar, Dave Stoltz on bass, Matt Zeiner on keys and Jay Collins sax. In addition, an unnamed special guest is set to appear at the show which will take place at the Maple Tree Cafe in Simsbury, CT starting at 9:30.
