As their first of four performances centered around the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival, Dumpstaphunk played a lively “Dumpsta Sugar Sex Majik” set at Howlin’ Wolf on April 27, welcoming guests like Lukas Nelson and guitarist Brandon “Taz” Niederauer.

In a clip posted to Dumpstaphunk’s Instagram page, the 14-year-old takes centerstage for a solo on Buddy Miles Express’ “United Nations Stomp.”

Interestingly, Niederauer performed the same song with Dumpstaphunk at Aaron Neville’s 75th birthday celebration in August 2016.

“I love just going up there [to sit-in with another band] and sometimes not knowing what they’re going to do,” Taz recently told Jambands.com. “That’s an adventure through my brain, just trying to figure out what key the song is in. Some people hate that, but I’m addicted to that process—where you don’t know the song, and you have to go up there. Especially when the song is really hard—that’s fun for me, when I get to discover things on the spot.”

On May 5, Dumpstaphunk will perform a show on Jazz Fest’s Acura stage, followed by late-night set at the Maison. They will also perform May 6 at Tipitinas. For more information click here.

Taz will perform at the Maple Leaf Bar on May 3, for a special Colonel Bruce Hampton Tribute featuring Duane Trucks, Marcus King, John Medeski, Jake Eckert and Roosevelt Collier.
