This month we’ve selected Panic Fans For Food, one of many notable sites out there run
by fans of particular bands who seek to use their collectively affection for a
group as a means to achieve charitable ends (we plan on featuring of these in the issues to come).
Josh Stack here, founder and organizer of PFFF adds…
‘We started doing food drives at Widespread Panic in October of 1999 at
UNO Lakefront Arena for the Halloween Run that year. In the two years since,
we raised over 5 tons of food and 10K dollars for 16 cities nationwide. Our
goals have primarily been to polish the image of Widespread Panic fans,
provide positive press for the band and the scene, and to help out those less
fortunate in the towns that we pass through. The fan community has responded
warmly, and we plan to increase our numbers as the years go by. Our main
objectives are to keep Widespread playing at the choice venues like Red
Rocks, Oak Mountain, UNO, and the Greek Theatre by offsetting the negative
contingency of the touring fans by leaving a positive mark in the cities that
WP plays, in addition to cluttered parking lots and various and sundry
arrests. "
