Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno has assembled an all-star line-up of musicians to perform as The Concept September 26 at B.B. Kings in New York City. The band consists of Krasno, drummer ?uestlove (The Roots), bassist George Porter Jr. (The Meters), keyboardist and vocalist Ivan Neville (Bonnie Raitt), saxophonist Casey Benjamin (Project Logic) and percussionist Bill Summers (Herbie Hancocks Headhunters).
This past January, Krasno, ?uestlove, Porter Jr., and Summers performed along with Tim Green at Superflys Super Jam at the Howlin Wolf in New Orleans. The initial response amongst the musicians was positive, but there was limited rehearsal time. The repertoire of next week’s show will include covers by Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, Stevie, The Meters, The Headhunters and Soulive, as well as plenty of free-form improvisation. Special guests are also expected.
