Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi and Jason Crosby joined forces with The Codetalkers featuring Col. Bruce Hampton Friday at Tobacco Road in New York City. At the beginning of the set, Derek and Susan husband and wife joined the band for an instrumental take on The Worlds Come Tumbling Down. While Trucks played slide guitar, Col. Bruce suggested that Tedeschi play his guitar, while it was still hung around his neck. After a few minutes of novelty, Hampton handed her the instrument and let the married couple trade guitar licks for an extended jam. Susan then sang Im so Glad, as Derek departed.
Crosby (violin) stepped in for the rest of the show, which included Threw the Body in the Lake’, Going Back to Lima’ and Lovelight.
Last night, following an 8 p.m. performance on radio program Jam Nation in Hartford, CT, Crosby and his band traveled back to New York for a midnight gig at Tobacco Road. Guest vocalist Shannon McNally sang a few songs with the group, including Down & Dirty and Instant Karma. The band will return to Tobacco Road Wednesday, which happens to be an off-night for the Allman Brothers Band, in town for its annual run at the Beacon Theater. Expect special guests.
