NEW ORLEANS – Soulive welcomed a seemingly endless string of special guests to the stage last night and earlier this morning at Tipitinas Uptown. Towards the beginning of the show, John Scofield stepped in for What You See is What You Get, Nealization and Hottentot, which featured a dueling guitar solo Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno. Following his performance, Sco stepped to the mic, calling Soulive one of the most talented bands on the planet. The trio then invited trombonist Fred Wesley (James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic), trumpeter Nicholas Payton, tenor saxophonist Ryan Zoidis (Lettuce) and alto saxophonist Sam Kininger (Lettuce, Soulive) for several songs, including Stevie Wonders Jesus Children and Sly & the Family Stones Stay, both sang by Ivan Neville. Karl Denson (fresh from the Umphreys McGee show) then joined in for a portion of the set, including Cannonball.

Soulive plays Saturday at Twi-Ro-Pa in New Orleans. For details, visit www.soulive.com.
