The Dead welcomed special guests to the stage at each of its shows this past weekend. Last night at the TweeterCenter in Mansfield, MA, Steve Winwood emerged in the first set for Only the Strange Remain, which segued into Loose Lucy. Saturday at the Hartford Meadows in Connecticut, Winwood joined in for Aiko Aiko and saxophonist Randall Bramblett took the stage for Sugaree’ and ‘St. Stephen.’ Both also joined in for Traffic’s ‘Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys.’ Friday at S.P.A.C. in Saratoga Springs, NY, Phish bassist Mike Gordon sat in for a bass duel with Phil Lesh following Drums. Winwood also stepped in for his own Dear Mr. Fantasy and Baba Jingo.
In other news, The Dead has confirmed two shows at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY on Saturday August 9 and Sunday August 10 (this is the weekend that the band was originally scheduled to headline Bonnaroo NE, which has been canceled). The group will perform three sets on each night, including one acoustic set. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 9 a.m. EST. For details, visit www.dead.net.
