Due to the closing of Tobacco Road Wednesday night’s Oteil and the Peacemakers gig has been moved to the Knitting Factory…Fellow Allman Brother Derek Trucks was in the city this past weekend with his band for a gig at Town Hall on Saturday with Aubrey Ghent flown in for the occasion (Ghent not only is a sacred steel master but also a reverend who officiated at Trucks’ marriage to Susan Tedeschi). Count M’butu sat in on percussion throughout the show as well as the next night at the Bearsville Theater. Vusi Mahlasela will continue to open shows for the DTB through November 29, typically joining the headliner for a song or two (and with the Tedeschi tour ending this evening one never knows if she may appear as well)…Lotus’ first-ever New Year’s Eve gig will take place in Greensboro, NC at the Aristika Concert Cafe- the theme is ‘The Future is Now’ in which the band ‘will explore the past conceptions of what people thought the future would be like.’…On the other coast, Les Claypool, currently on the road with his reformed Primus has announced that he will return to the stage with the Frog Brigade on New Year’s Eve at Fillmore in San Francisco (although the on-sale info, possible opener and any putative theme remains TBA).
