The most famous band to hail from Inman Square in Atlanta, Delta Moon, has announced that their new CD, Goin Down South will be released on Deep Rush Records June 29. The band is fronted by the vivacious Gina Leigh, and driven by the twin guitar of Tom Gray (bottleneck, Dobro) and Mark Johnson (electric slide). While Gray has written songs performed by many other artists (including Money Changes Everything made famous by Cyndi Lauper), the originals on this disc mingle with covers from R.L. Burnside, J.B. Lenoir, David Bowie and Iggy Pop. The disc features guest appearances from Vassar Clements and Mike Auldridge

The band won the 2003 Memphis Blues Challenge and performed at last years W.C. Handy Blues Award Show. While they are based in country blues, the band is starting to develop a decidedly Americana feel. The band will cover most of the country in support of this release, and their upcoming performances include a stop at the Decatur Arts Festival in Decatur, Georgia this Sunday, and a performance at the Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 12.
