George Scott, a founding member and baritone vocalist of the Blind Boys of Alabama passed away in his sleep on Wednesday morning. While attending the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in 1936, Scott met Clarence Fountain and Jimmy Carter, forming the vocal group a few years later. The Blind Boys, who performed with Robert Randolph at the 2001 Jammys, recently won their fourth consecutive Grammy (Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album) for There Will Be A Light, their recording with Ben Harper. Scotts family has asked that mourners either make donations to the American Diabetes Association or send flowers to Holloway Funeral Home in Durham, NC (where the funeral will take place on Tuesday).
