Chris and Rich Robinson handpicked their opening acts for each show during the Black Crowes Hammerstein Ballroom reunion run. And, for the final two-nights of their high-profile residency, support duties were provided by the North Mississippi Allstars, fellow torch barriers of the Crowes southern-boogie.
Last night, NMA axe-man Luther Dickinson stuck around a little later than usual, joining the Crowes for their two-song encore. After some public praise from Chris Robinson, who appears on the Allstars Live at Bonnaroo, Dickinson added slide guitar to covers of Shake Your Money Maker and the Rolling Stones Happy. Earlier in the evening Dirty Dozen Brass Band guitarist Jamie McLean also augmented the Allstars for the final portion of the trios opening set. In addition to sparing with the Luther Dickinson, McLean also engaged in a duel with Cody Dickinson, whose washboard solo served as a late-set highlight. Both the Crowes and the Allstars will return to the Hammerstein Ballroom tonight.
