Trey Anastasio revisited his past on several occasions last night at New York’s Roseland Ballroom. In addition to performing selections from the Phish repertoire like ‘Never,’ ‘Pebbles and Marbles,’ ‘Sample in a Jar’ and the Rolling Stones’ ‘Loving Cup’ in-between sets, Anastasio offered a second acoustic segment during his first encore. Making his first appearance with Anastasio since Coventry, Page McConnell then joined his former guitar foil onstage for stripped down readings of ‘Strange Design,’ ‘Waves’ and ‘Loving Cup.’ As 70 Volt Parade took the stage a second encore, McConnell returned for an upbeat reading of ‘First Tube,’ alongside Peter Apfelbaum and John Medeski, who showed up to support the evenings opening act, the Wood Brothers.
