Dave Ellis was the founding saxophone player for RatDog. His addition to the group in the fall of 1996 marked the bands move away from its blues-based origins towards more jazz-infused realms (a direction which continued following Ellis departure at the end of 1999 and the addition of Kenny Brooks the following spring). Last night Ellis joined his longtime friend Brooks and his old bandmates at the conclusion of the groups second set at the Grand Ballroom in San Francisco for a segued run that extended from He’s Gone, into The Other One and Sugaree before concluding with Throwing Stones. He then returned for the Touch of Grey encore.
