Over the weekend, String Cheese Incident’s Kyle Hollingsworth played a series of dates under his own name alongside a clique of close friends: Ross Martin (guitar), Dave Watts (drums), Matt Spencer (bass) and Dominic Lalli (saxophone). A Fat Tuesday celebration, Hollingsworth decorated each venue he visited with beads and other Fat Tuesday paraphernalia, including rubber duckies.
On Friday, at Denver, CO’s Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, Hollingsworth also expanded his backing band to include a full horn section, as well as the Yvonne Brown and Maktub’s Reggie Watts. But, according to reports, the evening’s festivities peaked with a solo Rhodes rendition of ‘Close Your Eyes.’ A day later, at Boulder, CO’s Fox Theater, Hollingsworth welcomed each of the previous evening’s guests, in addition to String Cheese Incident bassist Keith Moseley on ‘The Bridge’ (a number which appears on Hollingsworth’s Never Odd or Even). Brown and Watts returned during Hollingsworth’s encore, trading vocals on an all-star version of ‘Round in Circles.’
