In November the Derek Trucks Band put out a call, via its website, for song suggestions that it could perform on New Years Eve. The group then narrowed down the final five selections for a final vote. As it turned out, the band played not one but three of these tunes, as following a midnight balloon drop at the Fox Theater, the group broke into Sly & The Family Stones I Want To Take You Higher. From there the band then offered covers of two other finalists: Billy Prestons Will it Go ‘Round In Circles and Dave Masons Only You Know and I Know, popularized by Delaney & Bonnie. The night also offered debut versions of the Allman Brothers Bands Stand Back, which also featured Tinsley Ellis on guitar and Dereks brother Duane on guitar, as well as Dozer and Hollands Dont Do It, a song long associated with Band. The DTB was bolstered by a three piece horn section throughout the evening (Paul Garrett, Kevin Hyde and Mace Hibbard) along with Ron Holloway on sax for Anyday and The Weight, as well as Ike Stubblefield on keys for the latter tune. Susan Tedeschi added vocals to many of the numbers, while both Trucks and DTB singer Mike Mattison contributed to her bands opening set.
