The Jazz Mandolin Projects latest ambitious effort is a multi-media manifestation of Leo Tolstoy’s short story, ‘How Much Land Does a Man Need?’ The story focuses on a Russian peasant who is offered as much land as he wants, so long as he can walk around its perimeter in one day. The performance draws together the written word, spoken word, video footage and music from the band in an exploration of the classic Russian tale that certainly applies to the present as well. JMP has a few performances slated for the coming weeks, beginning this Saturday January 20 at the Middlebury College Performing Arts Center. For ‘How Much Land Does a Man Need?’ Jazz Mandolin Project will consist of Jamie Masefield, Peter Apfelbaum, Sean Dixon and Michael O’Brien.
