Tonight a memorial will be held in memory of Michael Brecker. The jazz saxophonist passed away on January 13 after a long struggle with myelodysplastic syndrome. The Michael Brecker Memorial will take place from 6-7:30 PM tonight at New Yorks Town Hall. There is no cost for the memorial, though Breckers family requests donations be made to The Marrow Foundation’s Time is of the Essence Fund. A number of jazz venues around the world will also unite a symbolic dimming of the lights tonight in Breckers honor, while radio stations around the world will play the saxophonists music.
