As previously reported, moe. will travel to Europe this fall for a performance in Amsterdam. moe. is hoping to turn the event, which goes on sale at 9 AM tomorrow, into an annual European destination. Below, promoter Matt Durnin lets us know how the event came to be and where he hopes it will go:
_With a desire to turn the annual 5 day Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam into an event with a greater emphasis on music, I met with director of promotions at the Melkweg (Milky Way) and began my pitch to present moe. but was stopped after a few words explaining that he knew who moe. was and that he was partial to jambands as the Grateful Dead was the first major performance he promoted at the Melkweg over 25 years ago. At that point, Derry Brett, owner of Barneys and I knew that a lasting relationship was being forged. I had approached moe. the prior year but could not get clearance for the Melkweg so I knew that Jon Topper, moe.s manager, was already interested in performing in Amsterdam and my call to him confirmed that observation and subsequent conversations elicited that the band would like these shows to be annual events. Barneys, a yearly Cannabis Cup winner as well as primary stop for Americans visiting Amsterdam, was looking to highlight their 20th year in Amsterdam. We thus had the makings of two explosive evenings of music and all the rest that Amsterdam has to offer. Tickets for the two performances November 19th and November 20th go on sale tomorrow June 12, 2007. They will be available on the moe.org website as well as on the Melkweg website through a link to Ticketservice.nl
