Music fans attending the South African addition of Live Earth on July 7 will be greeted by some familiar faces. As of press time, the international music festivals southern most offering will feature Joss Stone, Senegal’s Baaba Maal, UB40, Benin’s Angelique Kidjo, South Africas Vusi Mahlasela and the Parlotones, among many others. The South African addition of Live Earth will be held in Maropengs Cradle of Humankind, which is located outside Johannesburg. Model Naomi Campbell will also speak at the event. Both Baaba Maal and Angelique Kidjo appeared at the 2006 edition of the Jammy Awards and Vusi Mahlasela has collaborated with both Dave Matthews and Warren Haynes (Mahlasela appears on the version of Soulshine included on the Govt Mule guitarists Live at Bonnaroo album). While may of the events collaborations will remain a mystery until show time, Stone did recently sing on a cover of the Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter included on Kidjos new album, Djin Djin.
