15 years after forming Planet Drum and scoring the first Grammy for Best World Music Album, Mickey Hart and Zakir Hussain will release Global Drum Project on October 2. Like Planet Drum, the Global Drum Project will feature percussionists from around the world, including Nigerian talking drummer Sikuru Adepoju, congas player Giovanni Hidalgo, Hussain’s percussionist brother Taufiq Qureshi, sitar player Niladari Kumar and sarangi master Dilshad Khan. The set also features vocal samples

provided by the late West African percussionist Olatunji, who also played on Planet Drum.The ensemble will open its tour September 20 with a performance at Tucsons University of Arizona and hit a number of clubs and colleges through late October
In addition to the Global Drum Project, the Shout! Factory label will reissue a series of discs from Harts catalogue, including Diga Rhythm Band, At the Edge Mystery Box and Supralingua. The albums, which feature a host of guest artists including Hussain and Jerry Garcia, will be available digitally in October and on CD in 2008.
