Herbie Hancock will pay tribute to Joni Mitchell on his new release ‘River: The Joni Letters. The studio album, which is due in stores on September 25, finds the improvisational keyboardist tackling a number of Mitchell originals with the help of Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, Vinnie Colaiuta, Lionel Loueke and Norah Jones, the latter of whom appears on the standout track Court & Spark. The disc also features vocal performances by Corinne Bailey Rae, Leonard Cohen, Luciana Souza, Tina Turner, and Mitchell herself. Hancock and Mitchell first recorded together in 1979 on Mingus, an album comprised of collaborations between Mitchell and the late Charles Mingus. The keyboardist will perform at Fukuoka, Japans ACROS Fukuoka Symphony Hall along with Shorter, Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette on October 8.
