Friday night, Philadelphias Grimace Federation performed aboard New Yorks Half Moon boat cruise as part of the 30th birthday celebration for scene staple Sam Fuchs. The former New Groove of the Month offered a nearly three hour performance and, at the start of its second set, brought out two of the partys guests for an impromptu jam: Disco Biscuits guitarist Jon Gutwillig and former Disco Biscuits drummer Sam Altman, who is currently enrolled in medical school. The jam session marked only the second time Gutwillig and Altman have performed together since the drummer left the Disco Biscuits in 2005. Immediately after the longtime friends left the stage, former collaborator Mike Greenfield (the Ally/State Radio) took the kit with Grimace Federation for covers of Daft Punks Robot Rock and Arcade Fires Neighborhood #3. Oddly enough, a night later Future Rock also nodded to both Arcade Fire and Daft Punk at an unrelated gig aboard the Half Moons sister ship, the Temptress. Grimace Federation will perform at Philadelphias Siren Records this evening.

In other Disco Biscuits news, the quartet has confirmed a brief Colorado run scheduled to take place this January. The group will appear at Ft. Collins, COs Aggie Theatre (1/16), Boulder, COs Boulder Theatre(1/17), Denvers Fillmore Auditorium (1/18) and Vails – Dobson Ice Arena (1/19).
