Today seems to be the day to discuss long awaited new albums: Marco Benevento has filled in some details regarding his previously confirmed solo project Invisible Baby. The new studio disc will be released via Hyena Records on February 12, featuring eight new songs performed by Benevento, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey/Tea Leaf Green bassist Reed Mathis and, alternatively, drummers Matt Chamberlain and The Slips Andrew Barr.

‘When I came to NYC in 2001, my plan was to make a trio record. I studied with Joanne Brackeen, Kenny Werner and Brad Mehldau. I hung with Mehldau and listened to Largo unmixed and mastered at his house in 2001 while I was studying with him,’ Benevento said in a statement. ‘I played two to three gigs a day in NYC, did the jam sessions and played with some incredible NYC musicians. For me this album fulfills something that I’ve wanted to do since I moved here.’

Invisible Baby was recorded at Seattles Avast! with engineer Mell Detmar and Brooklyns Trout Studios with Bryce Goggin, who worked with the keyboardist on Trey Anastasios Bar 17. All of the tracking was done to analog tape. As previously reported, Benevento will celebrate his new albums release with a series of appearances at New Yorks Sullivan Room on January 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. Special guests include Stanton Moore, G. Calvin Weston, Billy Martin, Skerik, Brad Barr, Joe Russo and Bobby Previte, among others. The final night of the residency will double as the albums release party featuring the core east coast trio of Benevento, Mathis and Andrew Barr.
