Anti-Poverty think tank Rock and Wrap It Up, which helps feed the hungry through recovery of contractual obligation of leftover food at concerts and sporting events, hosted a high-profile fundraiser at New Yorks Highline Ballroom last Thursday. The event featured a top dollar auction that helped Rock and Wrap It Up raise thousands of dollars to help feed the hungry and performances by rising California stars Jackie Greene and ALO. The West Coast friends also collaborated at the end of the night on a handful of songs, including a cover of The Bands Ophelia, Bob Dylans She Belongs to Me and the Rolling Stones Beast of Burden.

Greene will collaborate with ALO drummer/vocalist Dave Brogan this coming winter as well. The singer/songwriter is slated to appear on Brogans forthcoming studio album, which will be produced by The Mother Hips Tim Bluhm. Brogran will enter San Franciscos Mission Bells studio next month with an all-star cast, including Greene, Honeycuts Tony Sevener, The Mother Hips Paul Hoaglin and the other members of ALO. Brogan plans to release the album under an assumed group name this spring and tour throughout the year. Both ALOs Zach Gill and Dan Lebowitz are also working on solo albums in-between ALO tours.
According to a statement from Brogan, this album will include material hes been working on for the last five years, as well as some brand new compositions. Some of the songs are on the folksier, acoustic side because Ive been playing a lot of finger-style acoustic guitar lately, but there will be a good dose of rockers on the record, too, he says. Ive admired Tims work with The Mother Hips for years, and everything that hes put out recently, whether with the Hips, solo, or his various other projects, has just been brilliant. If even a trace of the guys magic can rub off on me, Ill be in good shape.
