On February 4, Mickey Hart, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir reunited for a Dead Heads For Obama performance at the Warfield Theater. However, while the Barack Obama/Hillary Clinton race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination continues, a new group of Dead Heads has emerged to profess their support for a candidate. Dead Heads for McGovern has announced plans for a performance and fundraiser to take place at Cafe 210 West in State College, PA on April 21, the day before the Pennsylvania primary.
While Hart, Lesh and Weir have not committed, the Dead Heads for McGovern show will draw together a number of all-star performers from such Grateful Dead cover bands as Stealy Fingers, Deadkinz, Dead Poets Society, Sons of Samson, Jerrys Kids, hardcore tribute rockers the Evil Dead and the all-female China Doll Revue. When notified that George McGovern wasnt participating in this years nomination process and hasnt run for the Presidency since 1972, the wide-pupiled Dead Heads For McGovern founder, who identified himself as Jack Straw, gurgled, 8/27/725/26/729/28/72..Ack! and then charged off into the woods.
