Last night in Providence, Trey Anastasio’s Classic TAB tour made it to Lupo’s. Opening with Neil Young’s ‘Come on Baby Let’s Go Downtown,’ a song not performed by Anastasio since 2002, the group visited a number of tunes it had not played over the previous four dates. The show included the two recent Anastasio compositions, ‘Backwards Down the Number Line’ and Gone, as well as a cover of Ooh, Child. The night later closed out with zest, as Billy Kreutzmann, Oteil Burbridge, and Scott Murawski, who were in town practicing for their upcoming KBM dates appeared for the encore. TAB bassist Tony Markellis ceded the stage to Burbridge and Russ Lawton stepped to the rear of his kit while Kreutzmann sat down, as the six-piece then moved from ‘First Tube’ into a freeform jam.
Tomorrow, Anastasio is in Boston, while KBM next appears on Friday night in Ft Lauderdale at the Culture Room.
