Already Free, the latest studio recording from the Derek Trucks Band is set for January 2009 release. However, on November 4, folks will get a taste of what is to follow with the release of the digital single, ‘Down in the Flood. Bob Dylan and the Band originally recorded the song as ‘Crash on The Levee (Down The Flood)’ during the 1967 sessions at Big Pink, the house just outside Woodstock, New York. As for Already Free, it was cut at Truck’s home studio in Jacksonville, Florida with Doyle Bramhall II, Oteil Burbridge, Susan Tedeschi and Duane Trucks joining the sessions.
Last night in North Bethesda, MD, the DTB debuted ‘Down In The Flood.’ This was one of a few tunes the group offered up for the first time, including the title track from the new disc. Ron Holloway added sax to a few songs as well, such as ‘Volunteered Slavery,’ ‘Get Out My Life’ and ‘Leavin’ Trunk.’ This evening, the Derek Trucks Band will appear in Roanoke, VA.
