We don’t want to let the week pass without sharing some details regarding the Las Tortugas Dance of the Dead Halloween Celebration. The event took place from October 30 through November 2 at the Evergreen Lodge in Groveland, CA. ALO’s Steve Adams and Dan Lebowitz took MVP honors over the course of the festival, with each of them playing eight sets with various groups. One early highlight was the Lebo and Friends late night set on Thursday night, which included a version of ‘Down By the River’ that featured guests Tim and Nicki Bluhm. As for Friday, with Tea Leaf Green bassist Reed Mathis touring Europe in Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Adams appeared with Tea Leaf Green, while Lebowitz joined in as well. Another Friday highlight was the Izabella set in which the band traveled back to 1983, offering up covers of such songs as ‘Tom Sawyer’ and ‘Thriller.’ Then on Saturday, ALO delivered only its second show in nearly nine months (the other one being a set at Outside Lands). In a reciprocal move, TLG’s Josh Clark and Trevor Garrod sat in with ALO over the course of the show, which included an apt take on ‘Werewolves of London.’ Another fitting moment came on Sunday courtesy of JGB, which offered a nod to the weekend’s weather with a version of ‘Mission in the Rain.’ Plan are already underway for next year’s Dance of the Dead.
