Marco Benevento spent the weekend on the road with a new trio consisting of Jacob Fred/Tea Leaf Green bassist Reed Mathis and once-and-future Phish drummer Jon Fishman. On Saturday, the three musicians appeared at New Yorks DROM along with special guest opener Nathan Moore. The group offered an eclectic mix of material over the course of the night, moving from My Morning Jacket (Golden) to Deerhoof (Twin Killers) to The Zombies (Shes Not There) to several cuts off the keyboardists solo album Invisible Baby. Ween bassist Dave Dreiwitz was also on hand and replaced Mathis for an instrumental version of his bands Baby Bitch, while RANA/American Babies guitarist Scott Metzger sat in with the core trio for Combustible Edisons Carnival of Souls.

Benevento, Mathis and Fishman will appear at Burlington, VTs Flynn Space this evening. Looking ahead, on Wednesday Benevento will hookup with The Slips Marc Friedman and Jacob Freds Josh Raymer for another trio tour scheduled to kick off at Bostons Caf39.
