HeadCount has announced that it is going to step up its efforts to engage the political arena beyond voter registration. The organization has recently launched a survey at its website, ‘to ask music fans what political issues should be the highest priority for Congress and the Obama administration.’ In turn, HeadCount pledges to ‘stage letter-writing and awareness campaigns based on the results of this survey.’ ‘We have a lot of big plans for 2009,’ says HeadCount’s Executive Director Andy Bernstein, ‘Registering voters is just the first step. There are many ways for our community to be socially and politically active. That’s what we’re trying to achieve.’

HeadCount will move forward with its letter-writing campaign next weekend during the Phish shows at Hampton Coliseum. The organization will host a table at the venue where pre-printed letters to Congressional representatives will be available with room for individuals to add personal comments. HeadCount also will be present at numerous other concerts in the months to follow, including the Spring Dead Tour.
