Nearly 100,000 music fans attended the Green Apple Festivals flagship event in Washington, DC yesterday afternoon. As previously reported, actor/comedian/Jammys veteran Chevy Chase hosted the day-long event, which featured performances by the likes of The Flaming Lips, Los Lobos, moe. and DJ Spooky.

Helping kick off festival season, The Flaming Lips Wayne Coyne stepped inside his giant, inflatable plastic bubble and crowd surfed across the National Hall in front of the The US Capitol Building. moe. also delivered a high-energy set that included such songs as Captain America, All Roads Lead To Home, Big World, Kyles Song, Tailspin, Darkness and George.
More than 50 non-profits, government agencies and business were also on hand throughout the day. Other prominent speakers included actor Matthew Modine and actress Joy Bryant, Kathleen Rogers, President of the Earth Day Network, Lisa Jackson, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and Hilda Solis, U.S. Secretary of Labor and others.
In addition to the DC event, Green Apple coordinated activities across the U.S. in Washington DC, Austin, TX, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Seattle. Each volunteer weekend ended with a special free thank you concert exclusively for volunteers.
