Deep Banana Blackout headlined the New York edition of Green Apples volunteer thank you concerts last night. The show took place at the Bowery Ballroom and, as expected, a number of special guests took the stage with the Connecticut-bred funk ensemble throughout the night. First, former James Brown and P-Funk trombonist Fred Wesley took

the stage for a series of funk songs: Doin it to Death, Take Me, Soul Power and God Make Me Funky. Longtime P-Funk keyboardist Bernie Worell then joined Deep Banana and Wesley for House Party, Shakey Ground and Simple Song. Worell continued to play after Wesley left, helping the evenings host through Standing on the Verge of Getting it On, Red Hot Mama, Comin Round the Mountain and Cosmic Slop. The evening also doubled as Worells birthday celebration.
