Sam Champion guitarist Sean Sullivan will release a reggae album under the

name Sean Bones July 21 on Frenchkiss Records. The meat of _Rings
On_, a project which grew out of a single Sullivan recorded last
summer, was recorded live to a 16-track machine and is said to nod to the
Congos, Desmond Dekker and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry.
‘Even when it’s poppy, reggae is heavy and weird,’ says Sullivan in a
statement. ‘Especially the early stuff-it’s done on primitive equipment
and it’s better for that. To me, that’s punk, and I love it.’
In addition to Sullivan, the Sean Bones band features Mikey Bones, Ryan
Thornton (RANA/Sam Champion), Mark Phillips, Merida Gorman and Joe Russo.
Norah Jones also lends her talents to the album. ‘I’m not closing any
doors,’ Sullivan said of his past projects, ‘but when the idea to record
my own reggae single came to me, I was so excited I had to stand on my fire
escape. It feels right to be doing this.’
