Umphrey’s McGee invited out several guests last night at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom. Noted electronic musician Z-Trip opened the show and longtime Umphrey’s McGee collaborator Mike “Mad Dog” Mavridoglou (Jazz Mandolin Project/Ray’s Music Exchange) conducted the band during a set-closing “Jimmy Stewart” improvisational segment. During the group’s second set, Dave Matthews Band/Flecktones saxophonist Jeff Coffin also emerged for “Made to Measure” and a first time cover of the Beatles’ “Lady Madonna.”

Coffin is a staple at Umphrey’s McGee Chicago New Year’s performances The sextet will close the year this evening with a second performance at the Aragon.
