The Heavy Guilt is a six piece group based in San Diego, CA. Founded by Alfred Howard and Josh Rice after the Alfred Howard and the K23 Orchestra the band also features Erik Canzona (vocals/guitar), Sean Martin (guitar), Jenny Merullo (drums) and Jason Littlefield (bass). The group self-released its debut album and is now calling for fans to help with its follow-up. The group hs set up an online fundraising site in effort to reach its goal of $5000.

On the Kickstarter site, Howard explains:

Hey, this is Al Howard from the Heavy Guilt and we’re here to make a record. We made our first album with money raised from a yard sale. I let go of my record collection, Erik parted ways with his Curb Your Enthusiasm dvds and Josh even sold his golf clubs.

We really met making that record. We headed up North to Prairie Sun Studios in Sebastapol and became fast friends through musical conversations. At that time we were a disparate group, but music was our common tongue. There was no initial intention of becoming a band, but the magic that happened during those sessions wasn’t the kind you look away from.

We’ve been preparing for this second record for more than a year. Gigging, writing, practicing, living and breathing the Heavy Guilt. We recorded our first album in four days. We want to take time with this one, draw from our influences, get nuanced and layered. And create something memorable and timeless.

We have the dates booked, we have the engineer, we are the band. We just need some help.
