Grateful Dead Digital Games

We’ll admit we’re not quite sure what to make of this news but we can report that Curious Sense, a game developer based in Asheville, North Carolina has announced that it has acquired the exclusive rights to create online and mobile social media activities utilizing the music of the Grateful Dead. The company’s founder, Adam Blumenthal, is a self-professed Deadhead.

A statement on the company’s website hints at what might follow: “Within seconds of entering the Grateful Dead Game, Dead Heads, and new fans alike, will be drawn into an experience that will adapt to the type of visitor they are. From the first click the player will enter into a universe of Grateful Dead music, sounds, and visuals. Games and activities will reside within several regions of the World, each designed according to a theme from Grateful Dead lore – the Old West, Space, San Francisco, Giza. At every turn whimsy, surprises, pranks, and miracles may be presented. We’re planning to design an interactive masterpiece, worthy of America’s most important band. (Yes, we are some very excited Dead Heads!!) Dead Heads will dig the experience for the novel ways we’ll offer them to play with the music they love. Prospective fans will have a new port of entry into the Grateful Dead World. Curious Sense is currently developing dozens of games to be included in the first version of the product, due to be launched this Summer.”

Suggestions: In the Parking Lot Scene, you can play Spot the Narc, Eat the Stash or win the Veggie Burrito Eating Contest. In Mid-Seventies World, you can see how many panes of glass you can shatter with Donna’s banshee screeching.

Does it come with a complementary sheet, or do you have to bring your own?

Can’t wait for all the whining about how historically inaccurate it is, how poor the song choices are, how lame the video is, and suggested improvements. God forbid it would be approached as a video game.
