Back on January 12, a fire destroyed the barn at Pete’s Greens, a four-season organic vegetable farm in Craftsbury, Vermont. Pete’s Greens functions on the CSA model based on the (Community Supported Agriculture) model whereby members make a financial commitment and then receive a weekly share of produce. In order to help raise funds for the farm, which is run in part by Phish’s longtime “first fan” (and later employee) Amy Skelton, a benefit took place last night at Burlington Higher Ground. The core group for the two sets of music featured Trey Anastasio band members Ray Paczkowski and Russ Lawton along with Bob Wagner, Clint Bierman and Peter Day. Governor Peter Shumlin was on hand and introduced guest Page McConnell, who sang lead vocals on Stealers Wheel’s “Stuck in the Middle” which segued into the Beatles’ “Taxman.” Jon Fishman then stepped out along with McConnell for a take on The Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street.” Fishman also participated in the second set which included a version of the Allman Bothers Band’s “Whipping Post,” The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends” and the “Hey Jude” encore.
